Ranukin Races
Ranukin come from all over Avita, and just like any other species, they vary from all continents!
Each race has different traits and abilities that set them apart from one another.
No matter the race, all kin will always have their respective mask/stocking markings.
All kin are still considered ranukin, as it is their originating ancestry, however they have their own names for their races that set them apart. (Ex: Humans are all Humans, but they may be considered Asian, African, Mexican, etc because of their race.)
History
It is presumed as a whole that all kin began as ranukin billions of years ago, and over time they evolved with unique traits stemming from their climate, terrain, and general way of life. In the beginnings of these changes, the races used to fight and even go into war with each other over their claims to certain lands. However over time, and advanced researches, they ultimately discovered that they were all kin, and all evolved from the same place. This epiphany throughout the species created a surge of peace, and a single world war has not broken out since. The races somewhat stick with their own and still practice their own cultures, traditions, etc. However the world is accepting of anykin, and there are multiple places where everykin is living and thriving together, like a melting pot of sorts!

Ranukin
Location: Worldwide
Transformation Specialties: Basic small wildlife, objects Special Traits: No special traits out of the ordinary, as they are the standard in which all other races stem from. Magic Specialization: none or all Wings: The wings on regular ranukin are not feathered. They are more like thick, sturdy butterfly type wings. They are incredibly soft and have thicker fur along the top edges, and shorter fur around the rest. They are lighter than they feel, and although a bit harder to maneuver in the sky, they get the job done! |
Ranukin are the original, basis of all kin. Their race is found all over Avita, and all races can be traced back to starting out as ranukin in the beginning. The original ranukin are the most common by far, however despite their genetics having remained very basic, they have a much easier time using all types of magic, compared to certain races that have developed to be more fluent in specific types, such as mantikin who are much more naturally gifted with aquatic type magics. |
Florakin
Location: Worldwide
Transformation Specialties: Plantlife Special Traits: All florakin have a plant sprout that appears from the back of the head, and can also additionally appear in various places around the body, typically the back and tail. Aside from this unusual growth as well as the wings, their bodies almost look just like regular ranukin. Magic Specialization: Plant Growth Wings: Florakin wings are perhaps the lightest and most magical of all the races. They beat faster than other wings, and they are also transparent and have a slight shimmer to them! The shimmery magic that flows off of them during flight gets absorbed by any and all plant life, and helps growth rates and health within the plants. |
Florakin are the second most common race, as they inhabit anywhere that has plant life. Their sprouts are said to be the physical embodiment of their souls, and although there is no scientific proof to this, their sprouts do create a magical glow when they are wielding magic. Their magic instinctively helps the plant life around them flourish, and manykin come to them when their crops are not doing well to request that they fly over the fields for a bit. This ability is extremely helpful in battle as well, should they decide to do such, they can actually bend the plants to aid them and attack. Most florakin are very calm, and battle can be a little much for them. They are quiet, but happy, and can often be seen bounding excitedly through meadows and playing together.

Mantikin
Location: Fresh and Salt Bodies of Water
Transformation Specialties: Aquatic animal and plant life Special Traits: 2 strong antennae right over eyebrow line that are sonar sensitive to help navigate darker waters. 3 fins attached to chin from ears. Very short and stubby legs with webs between toes, and a boyant tail. Fins can be larger or smaller. Gills hidden behind fins on cheeks, however lungs are also present for life on land when/if needed. A pearl on forehead that absorbs impurifications in the water. Body is typically not that fluffy, but rather coated in a small peach fuzz layer. Magic Specialization: Water Purification and Healing Wings: None! Mantikin are the only kin that cannot fly! Instead, they have large fin like structures in place of the wings that help direct them through the water. They are thick and sturdy , but can still be folded in just like any other kin's wings. |
Mantikin have a natural magic that glows and secretes from their fins when they sense impurities in the water, whether it be polluted waters, or even negative energies. They have large glowing antennae, that emit a healing magic that helps repair damages in both the physical and mental well being of anything that needs it. The pearl within their foreheads absorb the impurities and dissolve them over time. Because of this, the pearl can appear different colors at different times. Mantikin can certainly live on land, and some do! However their race is primarily found in the water, mostly in lakes and rivers. They have waterproof fur that keeps their skin dry and almost causes them to sparkle underwater. They also dramatically vary in size, some being quite large, while some are as small as a paw. They sing to one another to find certain members of their groups, and each mantikin has it's own unique song/voice, kind of like a fingerprint that identifies them.

Griffikin
Location: Skylands
Transformation Specialties: Avian species Special Traits: Front 2 legs are birdlike talons. Often a smaller pair of wings on the base of the tail, but not always. Feathers sprouting from the fur, typically on the top of the head, ears, cheeks, and along the back. Sometimes in place of a tail, the rear will just be heavily feathered. Feathers do molt, and often get picked up by otherkin from the ground to use as decoration or accessories. Magic Specialization: Teleportation Flight Wings: The wings that griffikin posses are the only wings in the ranukin species that are actually feathered like typical wings! Griffikin can navigate the skies with agility and grace like no other race, and their wings are by far the most flexible. |
Griffikin are super communal, and have huge congregations on skylands away from the rest of the world. They are often used for travel, as some wildlife and even otherkin can just hop on their backs and get to a destination within a few minutes that would often take a few days. They are quite large, and massively outsize any other race. Their huge talon feet make landing easier, as their paw pads would otherwise likely be torn asunder after impacting the land. Griffikin have the ability to teleport to anywhere that they can see from where they are. This makes travel so much easier for them, as they can fly high up and if they see their destination, they can immediately teleport to it even if it is on the very tip of the horizon. This technique is extremely useful in battle for evading attacks.

Lepikin
Location: Meadows, Open Fields
Transformation Specialties: Insect Life Special Traits: Long wing tails stretching out behind them from the front pair of wings. Whiskers on cheeks and eyebrows. Extra fluffy chest and rear area. Skinny legs. Smaller than most kin. Fur attracts and contains pollen. Magic Specialization: Pollination Wings: Lepikin have typical butterfly type wings! They are larger than most kin's wings, and come in arrays of colors and styles. They are thin and coated in a small layer of a fuzzy dust like fur. Despite the vast appearances of lepi wings, they all have long, beautiful wing tails attached to the front pair of wings that stretch out behind them. |
Lepikin are very social and funloving, often going out of their way to visit others, or hanging around with the florakin and chatting their ears off. They often work together with florakin, and many communities can be seen living together with them. Their wings can become easily damaged, and the damage to the wings is often permanent, resulting in holes, tears, and often making it harder to disperse their pollen or fly. Lepikin collect pollen and seeds by racing around the meadows and flower fields that they live in. The pollen and seeds get trapped in a Lepi's fluffy chest fur, until it turns completely yellow and dusty. Leps then search for areas that need help growing, and with a glowing dust that travels from their wings, they slowly disperse the pollen as they fly over those areas. This skill is obviously not so well in battle, but they can use it as a distraction to shroud their enemy in dust and make an escape.

Drackin
Location: Isles of Ash
Transformation Specialties: Reptilian Life Special Traits: 2 prominent whiskers on the snout or cheeks that can vary in length and style, larger claws on all four paws, sometimes scales on the belly/chest and leg areas, 2 horns in any matching style or size, often plates running down center back/tail. Sharper teeth/fangs. Their chest lights up orange or blue just before they breathe fire. Magic Specialization: Fire Wings: Drackin wings can come in various bat or dragon like styles, however they all have a thick fur layer on the top edges, with no fur on the other parts. They often have 1-3 claws on the upper point, which can be used to help cling onto cliff edges or other surfaces if they tire and need to land in a precarious spot. |
Drackin often have very fiery personalities, as unpredictable as the fire they hold in their chests. Often very stubborn, they get into arguments quite often with others, but can also be very cheeky and friendly when they find somekin they get along with. Classic joksters, they love gallivanting around and spooking others or cracking really bad puns. Drackin originate from the Isles of Ash, a cluster of volcanic islands too hot to host many otherkin. They often leave their island cluster to venture out into the rest of the world, as it can get quite lonely hanging out with the elders of their home. This race is the only one that can handle the extreme heat, and they thrive in it. They have a ability to breathe fire with their magic, and sometimes their wings have cinders and sparks of fire flicking from them in battle.

Cherubikin
Location: Frostfern, Fayridge
Transformation Specialties: Arctic creatures, snowmen Special Traits: Small ears. No tail, and instead a flat round rump. 3 fins attached to chin from ears, with inward swirls on the last fin coming in towards the nose. Very short and round creatures with stubby legs. Body is typically not that fluffy, but rather coated in a small peach fuzz layer. They are soft and blubbery like a seal, and this keeps them warm in the mountainous climate. 3rd pair of small wings behind the first 2 pairs that reaches just down to were a tail would be if they had one. Magic Specialization: Ice/Snow Wings: Cherubikin actually have 3 sets of wings along the back, the smallest pair towards the tailess rump. Their wings are strong, solid, and make flying a breeze despite their heavy blubbery bodies. Mostly the snowy flurries they create is what keeps them in the air as they catch the winds of the real snow storms. The first pair on the shoulders has a large distinctive swirl. The rest of the wing is solid, similar to a regular ranukin wing, however these wings have large indents that make them seem like they are almost feathered. The wings appear to create soft snow flurries around them when they are emotionally stimulated whether it be excited or upset. |
Cherubikin are a special race, that lives almost totally in the mountainous areas of Fayridge and Frostfern, sometimes even as far down as Everleigh. Legend states that their race was created by kaijukin Vanora of Havenpool. A group of mantikin risked their lives one day to approach Vanora and request she grant power onto them so that they can fly like the other races. Vanora blessed their request on the condition that they were to be reborn into their new forms, with no memory of being a mantikin. Some returned home and some were reborn in the mountains. The never ending blizzards of north are said to be caused by cherubikin to protect a sacred garden that they discovered there that contains the planet's source of life and magic. No one knows if the garden really exists, however if it does, cherubikin have done well keeping it hidden. Aside from the stories surrounding them, they are typically very fun loving and kind. Living in hobbit holes in the sides of the cliffs and welcoming weary travelers in for warmth and some fun snow play. Due to their close relation to mantikin, their specialtity is water based... just quite a lot colder. They can create giant fractals and dangerous icicle creations with their power which seems to stem from either breath or paws, however they typically use their power just to create ice toboggans down the sides of the mountains. They also sneeze snowflakes.

Revonkin
aka Kitsukin
Location: Starfire Skyland
Transformation Specialties: Canidae types. Special Traits: Star or diamond gem on forehead or chest that stores magic absorbed from starlight. The gem glows when they are using magic. Eyes are always shut or at least squinted when they do open a bit, but they can see with their magic. They always have between 2-5 matching tails. They are exceedingly fast runners as well. Their backsides are always covered in much longer fur than the rest of the body as a side effect of the wings. Magic Specialization: Star Fire Wings: During the day the wings appear as very large tufts of fur, but with the nightsky above, the starlight calls to the starfire within revonkin, and their wings become covered in bright wispy lights. The light is in the color of the revonkin's gem, and shines from the tail and gem itself. Despite looking like fur tufts, the wings are fully functional for flying as well, and the starfire at night helps lift them higher into the sky. |
When they run at night, the light they emit reaches up towards the sky and lingers, causing an aurora effect all around Starfire Skyland until the sun comes up. The aurora can be seen for miles around, all throughout the year. Manykin move from across the world to Petalend or even Maplegold to experience seeing the lights every evening for the rest of their lives. The lights can even be seen as far as Sunrest and Willofair. Revonkin live primarily on Starfire Skyland, the only skyland that is attached to the mainland. Rumor has it that revonkin were created by star shards from space hitting the skyland where they lived long ago as regular ranukin. Because of the revonkin's more private lifestyle, manykin around the world actually believe this tale. Revonkin are generally a very easy going and quiet type, often presenting a reserved "lone wolf" type of personality especially if they venture outside of their skyland, as otherkin tend to have so many stories about them, they feel a little awkward trying to interact with some that spend more time fawning over their presence than trying to actually get to know them.
